| The RADAR FLAG
company was founded in 1984 to increase boating safety for small watercraft. While cruising off the coast of Maine in a dense fog,
the owner's boat was almost run down by a large commercial vessel. The captain of
this ship stated that he did not see the fiberglass boat on radar. His advice was to
purchase a radar reflector. Metal reflectors were not effective, awkward, and
damaging to the rigging. Familiar with the
research of the space program, the owner invented what is now known as the RADAR
FLAG. From the time the first production model was presented to the Calypso
in July, 1986, over 25 major boating publications have heralded the Radar Flag in their
editorial pages. Calls and letters from boat owners, boating organizations, boating safety
groups, dealers and government agencies have been overwhelming.
